Just down the road from our Guildford base, on the streets of Godalming, there's a record shop that has been doing what it does best for almost seven decades. Record Corner opened its doors in 1958, and in all that time it has never stopped helping people find their next favourite record.
A Godalming Institution Since 1958
The shop was started by Michael White, a former teacher, at a time when you tried a record in a listening booth before you bought it. In those early years Record Corner made its name with classical and jazz, and it built a loyal following of listeners who came back again and again for recommendations they could trust.
Plenty has changed since then, but the spirit hasn't. Generations of Surrey music lovers have bought records here, and many of the people browsing the racks today were first brought in by a parent or grandparent.
A New Chapter
In October 2025 Record Corner passed to new owners, who are building on that history rather than replacing it. The range of new releases is growing, independent record shop exclusives have become a regular draw, and the second-hand racks are carefully picked. Long-time collectors, people coming back to vinyl after years away and first-time buyers will all find something worth taking home.
Vinyl and CDs share the floor with a growing selection of music books, too, so you can dig into the artists and stories behind the albums as well as the albums themselves. And with coffee now on offer, it's the kind of shop where you can grab a cup, take a seat and settle in for a proper browse.
Why Record Care Matters Here
A shop with this much history understands better than most that records are made to last, as long as they're looked after. A well-kept original pressing can pass through several owners and still sound wonderful, while a brand new album bought today could well become someone's lifelong favourite.
That's why we're delighted that Record Corner stocks Legend Vinyl care products. Whether you've just picked up a second-hand find that needs a proper clean or you want to keep a new purchase in pristine condition, you can pick up what you need at the counter. A good clean before the first play and fresh sleeves afterwards make a real difference to how your records sound and how long they last. You can also browse our full range of vinyl cleaning products and record sleeves online.
More Than a Place to Buy Records
Record Corner is also a place to spend time with other music lovers. The shop hosts live in-store performances and Wine & Vinyl evenings, where you can listen, browse and swap recommendations with fellow collectors. Record Store Day is a highlight of the year, bringing queues, conversation and the thrill of tracking down a limited release.
It all comes back to the simple pleasure of choosing music in person: flicking through sleeves, chatting about records and heading home with something worth playing, looking after and one day passing on.
